 A ballast is a necessary component of any HID light system. Specific starting requirements and line voltage are regulated by the ballast. Standard ballasts use the traditional method of a folded metal coil transformer to perform these functions. Electronic ballasts use cool and quiet circuitry to perform the same functions at higher efficiency.
